When we talk about our goals, about our projects, and about the planned trips in 2007, it's not uncommon to hear nurses and doctors say that they'd wanted to do something, go somewhere, volunteer, for years, and they've never done it, for one reason or another. This is one of those opportunities, one of those chances to get out and join a group right in its beginning, its genesis, and actually take part in molding the Kokotoni Project. There hasn't been a better time to get involved.

Last year was an exciting year. It was our birth year, and has proven to be our inspiration. Below is a timeline of how the year went.

Timeline

This year has begun well. Aaron and Jessica Loukonen presented at Grand Nursing Rounds at Duke Hospital, and received a lot of support as well as requests for more information on how to become involved. Because we are focusing on being a center for interested people to come to, we're focusing on condensing our ideas and plans down so that folks have something to sign on to, rather than ideas.

How can you get involved? We need ideas, we need manpower, and we need dedicated folks willing to go even into the field to help with our projects. One of the easiest and most useful ways to get involved is to visit our forum, register, and present your own ideas. We're hoping that a team can be organized to travel to Kenya in October or November to start looking at community needs.

In particular, we need to focus our goals. Presently, including the projects available for sponsorship, we also are interested in the following broad goals:

Creating Exchange For Doctors/Nurses For Education In Mombasa Hospitals

Finally, the second half of next year is looking to be the most exciting. By October, we hope to take a trip to get working on our projects. In anticipated cooperation with Choice Humanitarian, we hope to investigate the needs of the communities near Mombasa and the possibilities of starting a clinic there, as well as supporting the Kokotoni Clinic.
